Travelling Around Germany

October 17th, 2008

Dear fans,

This week I have been touring across Germany to do interviews. The first question of the journalists always seems to be: “Helmut, you have been doing Classics and Africa and Latino and all these different things, now you’re doing a swing album. Why?” So, that is fun, it is like: been skiing and broken a leg, and now I have to tell everyone over and over again how it happened.

One journalist was so nice to mention that I have a very cute French accent in speaking German. So, I had to explain that I am actually from the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium.

And in Dresden, while I was talking to a bum with a barrel organ in the street, a photographer took a picture. That man got angry, we should pay him before even thinking of using this picture, he said. Well, I wish him good luck with his barrel organ, since music soothes the moral.

As you see, everything is going smoothly so far. Of course, it’s a lot of interviews. Even in the car, driving from one city to another I am on the phone talking to journalists. For live radio-programs we stop aside of the road to have a better connection and sound, and then I get nervous, because of all the time we may lose. But everything is well organised and Omer is driving. Omer always stays cool. Thanks to him, we have always been on time. Omer is a man with no problems. He only has solutions, he says.
