HELMUT, A HEART FOR
UNICEF HELP, IN FAVOUR OF HELMUT LOTTI !

Helmut Lotti Ambassador
of Unicef
Helmut Lotti touches and
moves hundreds of thousands of fans over the whole world. What is just as
infectious is his sensitivity for injustice, his love for children. The
Ambassadorship for UNICEF gives him the chance to work towards a better
future for each and every one of them. Thanks to your help.
At the
beginning of 2000 Helmut Lotti, just sworn in as Ambassador for UNICEF
Belgium, visits the victims of the floods in Mozambique that spared no one
and nothing. The images of the tens of thousands of displaced children,
hungry, stranded and without a future, will remain a lasting impression.
In May that same year, he gives a benefit concert that is sold out in no
time. The first initiative of many.
Since then Helmut has set
himself in relentlessly for all of those who are less fortunate, for all
the displaced and for all the rejected in the world. In 2003 UNICEF asked
him to visit Namibia a country that is in danger of being suffocated by
AIDS, and the denial of it. A trip through villages, schools and hospitals
convinces Helmut of the necessity of immediate help. He put his back into
the support of a HIV and AIDS prevention program with 5
goals:
- The production and distribution of information
leaflets, brochures and T-shirts
- The founding of a health centre where the youth can go to
without the fear of taboos.
- The organisation of discussion days for and by the
youth.
- Setting up a clear info campaign over sexual
health.
- The education and information of parents, teachers and
youth workers.
"I've seen with my own eyes how effective UNICEF works",
says Helmut Lotti. "The visits I made to Namibia and Mozambique have
convinced me even more that I made the right choice. What I find
particularly special is that the organisation gives its attention to all
children, regardless of where they come from. Children are the future.
That's why it would be fantastic if you would like to support UNICEF. The
children need your help!".
OUR ONLY
HOPE
It isn't only the children in Namibia who
live with the threat of Aids. The spread and progress of HIV is cause of
death number 4 in the world, for millions of children and their
surroundings it's a catastrophe. One person between the ages of 14 and 24
years is infected every 14 seconds, that's 6,000 youngsters every day. Yet
they are our only hope of stopping this devastating epidemic.
In
Angola, a prevention programme, like the one in Namibia has enabled
240,000 youngsters to receive the correct information about Aids and HIV.
840 young health instructors were trained and 9,350 teachers in secondary
education followed a special course. By taking this same path, some 150
prevention clubs were set up in Rwanda where young people can attend
anonymously.
That has to be possible in Namibia, and the quicker
the better because the situation is acute. By the middle of 2004 a quarter
of every family had lost one parent to HIV/Aids. In 7,768 families the
children live as orphans. 23% of people between the ages of 15 and 49 yrs
are HIV positive. Aids causes the highest death rate in adults in Namibia,
the third with children.
To turn the tide, UNICEF carries on the
painstaking fight. With the help of Helmut. He gives concerts, takes part
in press conferences and special events.
But his most important
weapon in the fight against injustice and the suffering is you. Helmut has
said before, that although he appreciates the presents and the flowers, he
would be just as happy if that money were to go to a good cause. Mr. Y.
Willemot, director of communications to UNICEF in Belgium, brought him for
this reason in contact with Greta Anseeuw, responsible for fund-raising.
Through her a special bank number has been
arranged:
